Feedlot · Pens

Every pen has its own record, like every animal in it.

PaddockPath knows which lots share each pen, how much room it has before a move, and when its bunk, trough and floor were last seen to. Look back at any pen on a past day, or ahead to how the pens will stand tonight.

Pen 14 of a feedlot drawn from above on a morning before the feed truck comes, its cattle back by the water trough and a little of yesterday’s feed in the bunk. The pen, its stretch of the bunk, its water trough and its floor are each marked in turn and labelled with what the pen’s record holds about them.

At a 10,000-head feedlot

47 of its 57 occupied pens hold more than one lot, and 22 hold cattle of more than one owner. In two months, 97 moves took 11,356 head between its pens.

From one feedlot’s records: pens as they stood on 16 October 2026, and the moves of the 60 days before.

Who’s in the pen

A pen is several lots at once, and each keeps its own figures. Pick a lot on the pen’s page and its weights and days on feed narrow to it. The bunk call stays the whole pen’s.

Moving cattle

Every pen says how much room it has before a gate opens. Say how many are moving first, then where: each pen reads its room, its spare or how far over it would go. The move lands on every animal it moved.

On every animal

Each move is a line on the record of every animal it moved, with where it came from. On the web a transfer can be reversed for exactly the animals it moved, leaving out any that have moved on since; nothing moves until the reversal is run.

Kept, and counted

Every bunk, trough and pen floor is kept on a schedule, and NFAS reads it. Cleans and checks are recorded at the pen, and a bunk call counts as the bunk’s check. Item 3.4.11 answers itself from them.

Counted

Each pen is a feedlot pen, a hospital pen or outside the feedlot: a paddock, paddock pen or depot. Only feedlot and hospital pens count as on feed, and each is checked against 9 m² a head. Shade is kept on the pen, dated.

Tonight

The movement calendar plays the day’s bookings still to come on today’s pens, and shows how the pens they touch will stand tonight. A pen the day would take past its capacity is named before anyone moves.

FAQ

Questions about pens.

Does the pen’s page work without signal?

Yes. The pen’s page, its care lines and every move are kept on the phone, recorded without coverage, and sent when it’s back.

Platform
Can a move be undone?

Yes, on the web. Reversing a transfer plans a new one for exactly the animals it moved, leaving out any that have since left or moved on, and nothing moves until it’s run.

What if a move would take a pen over its capacity?

You see it before you pick the pen: each one says how far over it would go. The move still goes ahead if you choose it, because yards double up on purpose.

Can we lay out our own feedlot?

Yes. Upload your site plan, place your pens, mixers and junctions on it, and draw the roads between them with their distances. The feed run is planned over those roads.

Feeding
How are hospital pens counted?

A pen marked as a hospital pen counts towards your cattle on feed, and a move into it counts as a pull, as NFAS asks.

NFAS & audit
What do owners see of a shared pen?

Only their own animals. Each owner’s cattle are billed for their own days in the pen, and the links you share show nothing of anyone else’s.
